Overall, I wish I could give a 6 stars. The quality is awesome! Super strong design and well balanced! Highly recommended.

This is a video tour of the process that took over a week to complete from clearing the trees, removing tree stumps, leveling the land, and mapping out the area. We had to hired two handy-men to assemble the skyfort II and they did a marvelous job. See the video for details.

My 3 Sons love the Skyfort II!!!!

backyarddiscovery.com

I searched and searched and searched for the perfect play set for our 2-year-old daughters birthday. I looked at a wide variety of brands, and styles. After comparing the features of the Skyfort II to the features of various other brands at the same price level, it was clear this set gave us the biggest bang for our buck!

The set took about 26 hours of my time, and about 18 hours of my dad's. We mostly worked on it after we both got home from work during the week. We did spend about 8 hours on Sunday together working on it.

The set is solid, shipping is quick, and assembly is... well assembly is not as easy as opening a banana. It takes time, it takes patience, and it takes a keen set of skills to ensure you have everything in its place. Here are my tips:

1.) Open each box separately. Inventory each piece as you take it out of the box against the packing list in each box. Be advised that the packing list in the most updated piece of information, versus the online manual or manual that comes with it.

2.) LABEL EACH BOARD WITH MASKING TAPE AND WRITE THE LETTER/# ON THE MASKING TAPE!! Yes, the wood is labeled. Is it super tiny and sometimes difficult to read, yes! By putting masking tape on the wood with larger letters/numbers, you will be able to see the boards easier when assembling. Furthermore, I suggest taping together like boards, i.e. M25 may have two boards, so tape them together. Put all the boards in alpha/numeric order.

3.) Go through the book, and group all the hardware (nuts, bolts, screws, lug screws, washers, "L" brackets, etc) together per each step. I suggest either putting them in ziplock baggies, or Tupperware. Just be sure to label each bag/container with what step is in that container. I promise you, it will take you a long while to do the above step and this one, but can assure you that in the long run, you will save massive amounts of time and stress!

4.) PAY VERY VERY VERY VERY CLOSE ATTENTION TO WHICH WAY A BOARD IS TO BE LAID OUT! There are a ton of pilot holes, and it is crucial to the structural integrity and ease of putting the set together. I strongly encourage that you always look a step or two ahead to ensure you have put a board in the correct position. Always assume that certain holes, go a certain way.

5.) Have at least two batteries if you are using a 12v cordless drill. Having two drills can be beneficial as well.

6.) It seems weird building all the attachments at the start. Trust me, it is so nice once you have the fort together to just be able to attach the slide, ladder, rock wall, etc.

7.) When using T-Nut "BG", always hand start the bolt into the T-Nut. This will help in not having you push the T-Nut all the way through and ruin the T-Nut. Just get the bold started into the T-Nut and then use your power drill, being sure to go slowly.

8.) We built the entire crow's nest, and then attached it. Was it heavier to lift? You bet, but a lot easier and safer than trying to attach pieces to the crows nest 9 foot off the ground!

9.) I leveled the ground that the fort was to be placed on, and put 7 19"x19" pavers perfectly level on the ground. I had the pavers so it created a "U" with the open part facing the front. The dimensions were 61" wide, by 81" deep. It ensures you have a level surface to build the fort and be able to square everything off of your main fort.

10.) Speaking of squaring, SQUARE AND LEVEL EACH AND EVERY PIECE YOU ATTACH. It is very frustrating if you just guess on some pieces, and then end up having to loosen them to square it up each time.

11.) Have some short 1x4 pieces handy. Then read the manual and find out what gap distances you will need. Create gap measure pieces out of a random 1x4, 2x4, etc. It is much easier than trying to use a tape measure or something else. The amounts are random (2 - 11/16" for example).

12.) When putting the screws into the slide all along the side, be sure to go exactly straight so you don't have a rogue screw go through the slide.

13.) I had my dad help me for about 80% of the project. There were two nights he did not help. While I assume one person could get the entire set done, it is SO MUCH EASIER when you have two people.

14.) Don't throw out the French and Spanish versions of the manuals. You can use them to help you look a step or two ahead for pictures.

15.) Ignore that a PFH 2" screw is labeled as a "CK" for example. Just worry about the style and sizes. Don't waste your time labeling the hardware like you did the wood. I seriously recommend doing each step into one bag, etc.

16.) Have fun putting it together. It is a great time to bond with whomever you are building it with! Once it is completed, you will love it, and your child(ren) will too!

Fantastic Set! Great value at a great price!

I echo what others have said:
Parts inventory is a must.
Stay organized.
Have patience.
Review all hole locations prior to tightening bolts.
Have patience.
Stay organized.
Have patience.
Kids love it.
I assembled the entire set alone so it can be done alone, however, i read someones preferred method was a 2 person organize and builder approach. I think that is the ideal assembly team.
Have patience.
Kids love it!

Save money. Assemble yourself.

We absolutely LOVE the Skyfort and are so happy we spent the money on it. It took about 25-30 hours for my husband to assemble it. He did most of it alone, but I helped with about 4 hours of the work. It's definitely easier with two people once you're working higher up and would be much faster with two people all along.

The directions were very easy to follow. Lots of pictures. It definitely helps to sort ahead of time. We separated the wood by letter/number and also took about 3 hours to put screws, washers, etc. into ziploc bags based on what step they go with, and that really helped speed up the building process. Having two ladders and two drills was helpful (two drills so you can keep different bits in at the same time and not have to switch them out so often).

It's shipped in 4 VERY HEAVY, large boxes. When it was shipped to us, we were missing the slide. The shipping company was able to locate it and got it to us within 48 hours of the initial delivery.

Our older kid just turned three years old and the other is 22 months, and they are in heaven with this playground in their backyard. The crows nest is a big hit! The only thing they can't do on their own is the monkey bars, but they like to try them with help. We are certain we will enjoy this purchase as a family for many years to come - great investment! It's also great because it's beautiful and adds to our landscape! Would recommend to anyone looking for a playset!

Beautiful Playground - the kids are in heaven!

I bought this a few weeks ago and received it in a little over a week, ahead of the estimated delivery time by over ten days. We started unpacking everything (four big boxes) last week and then built this thing over the weekend. It took every bit of sixteen hours for two able-bodied adults to assemble, but it was not that difficult overall considering its finished size.

The "chalet" in the top is big enough for me to stand in and I'm 6' 5" (2m) tall! The set is amazingly solid and looks incredibly impressive when coming around the corner to my back yard. The kids (three of them, ages three to seven) were busting at the seams to play on it today after school and play they did! This could easily keep six or more children occupied, which is great because we have lots of friends and family who also have multiple kids.

Incredibly satisfied with this purchase. Easily buildable by adults if you have a good drill, necessary bits and some rudimentary framing knowledge (i.e. the 6-8-10 rule) to keep it square. Top it off with a level and shovel to get the landscape right and this is a project whose investment will pay off over and over for years to come!

Buy it, build it and you too will stand back amazed at the most awesome kid's play set ever...I want to be a kid again!

Amazing! A veritable mansion for my kids!

This play set is an excellent value for the price. My kids love playing on it, as well as all of the other neighborhood kids! It did not take long to receive the play set.

My one MAJOR complaint about this purchase - I paid the extra amount to have it installed. That was a nightmare! The manufacturer of the play set uses a contract company to build it. I got an appointment time for a Monday between 8 am-12 pm. The installers didn't call me until Monday afternoon at 3:00 pm to tell me they would be at my house at 5:00 pm! They worked on it until 8:30 pm. They told me they would be back the next day (Tuesday) to finish it in the afternoon. They didn't arrive until 7:30 pm on Tuesday night and their supervisor called to tell me they would finish that night. He insisted that they were professionals and could complete it in the dark! I told him that I didn't want them working in the dark because this was something my kids would be playing on and I didn't want any mistakes made. So they worked on it until 8:30 pm. During this time, I called the corporate office of the manufacturer to complain and they said that the installers would be back the next day (Wednesday) around 3:00 to finish it. I got a call at 8:30 am the next morning from the installers saying that "their scheduled cleared up" and they would be here to finish the play set that morning. They worked on it all day again until 8:30 pm and pretty much completed it. There was an issue with ladder because one of the boards wasn't included in the box. The installers told me they had informed their supervisor about the missing board and that the supervisor would call the order in to have the missing board shipped to me. Then they would be back to install it. About a week passed by and I still had not heard from the manufacturer about the replacement board, so I called. They had my play set listed as being completed and had no idea about the missing board. They even looked at the pictures that were taken of the play set by the installers and could clearly see that the ladder was missing and the play set was not completed. They quickly sent the replacement board and fixtures and had someone different come out to repair it (per my request). And now the play set is complete and my kids are happy.

Bottom line - do not pay the extra amount to Sam's Club to have it installed. Find your own company/person/handy man to do it.

My kids love this swing set!! But...

We are currently putting the unit together, which is very time consuming. So far, all parts and pieces are there. The unit appears to be good quality. The instructions are pretty good for first time users of these instructions. The unit is good size with lots of stuff for the grandkids to do.

Nice unit with lots of activity.

Great quality of wood. A lot of pieces took a total of 15hrs, spread between three days. We added one or two pieces of wood for better structure and added a tube slide to the back entrance. Super cool and the kids love it! We have a 2 & 3 yr old and hopefully they will love it till they are 10.

Great quality!

The instruction manual needs editing. There are way too many mistakes. Many of the hardware packages had the incorrect number on them. There was also an issue of incorrect number of product available in the packages. It didn’t stop there. I had quite a few warped boards, illegible markings to identify where the board went, and many pieces of wood that are questionable concerning their strength. We were able to complete construction but this company needs to step up their quality control.

Just okay

This type of cedar is very very lightweight and has absolutely no density. I understand that is somewhat the nature of the wood, but then many of the pieces that are braces and supports should have been cut larger. Also, the stain is so minimally applied and easily rubs off to the point that it will be all over your kids clothes if you don’t stain it properly yourself. I had to re-stain everything right off the bat. There’s also no evidence of any quality control: excessively warped boards, boards of the same part number that are not cut to the same size, edges that are planes too thinly, bent screws and boards that split way too easily. It’s like no matter how badly it came off the assembly line, they threw it in the box anyway. I also think that the engineering of the crows nest is inferior and will not be sufficient to support a 2 seat swing, which will require that you come up with some sort of modification to beef it up. I would go with another brand name that already puts quality in the box, otherwise you will just end up spending the extra money anyway on all of the modifications you will need to make.

You get what you pay for, sometimes less than that
