[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Initially, this little unit left me in a quandary. It is a great-sounding portable speaker with lots of power delivering the deep, low-end, and crisp highs one would expect from JBL. About the size of an energy drink, it is easy to transport and use. While I honestly love almost everything about this Flip, I was skeptical because it is a single source (mono) device. This sturdy little speaker led me on a journey of nostalgia, philosophy, and, eventually, monaural acceptance.
The year I was born, stereo records were introduced. I listened to music on a mono record player for years until I got a stereo for my birthday. The entire family gathered around as we marveled at the imagery and instrument placement stereo provided. As years went by, multichannel reproduction exploded from stereo left and right to surround sound front, center, rear, and beyond. Now, enter a little portable speaker, smaller than my coffee mug, that reproduces rich, full, and yes, loud, sound…this was going to take some contemplation.
I did a little research with the younger people in my life. Their response was enlightening. A single source unit sounds good. They are easy to use and get loud enough to annoy my neighbors. Huh. It occurred to me that maybe I was holding onto the past. Maybe mono is not such a compromise. This unit utilizes digital mono processing, and it does employ two amplifiers. 20 watts to the race-track shaped (oval) woofer and 10 watts to the tweeter along with JBL's famous passive radiators on each end of the can. This has the potential to create really big sound!
The Flip is good for near field listening. I connected to my TV and kept the Flip close so I could listen without disturbing others. It also serves as a general small to medium room sound source. I hung it on a hook on the wall and music filled the room. One benefit I found is that there is no “sweet spot.” It sounds good all over the room.
Set-up is easy. My devices found the Flip instantly. It will also connect to the JBL Portable App. The app allows multiple units to connect via Bluetooth simultaneously. Auracast, in the App, allows two Flip Essential 3 SEs to connect as true stereo channels. The battery life is phenomenal. I ran it loud for over four hours and the battery life display was still over half full. In fact, it ran ambient music for two more days before I charged it again.
As I reflect on this experience, I imagine this is what it was like back in the ‘50s when monaural systems were the norm. People would undoubtably invite their friends over to listen to their new hi-fi. “That full, rich fidelity comes from such a small device” happy listeners might agree.
“The more things change…” I quipped. But is this path a circle back? Maybe not. Each day, we return to the commonality of a sunrise, yet with every sunrise, a new horizon is there to enjoy. My stereo is safe. I will always love getting lost in the mix, but the JBL Flip Essential 3 SE is a perfect way to take high fidelity sound along on any journey.

A Nostalgic Trip of Discovery and Audio Enlightenment

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] With the exception of the gym, I bring this speaker with me everywhere. I even tethered it to my motorcycle bars with a bungee chord and it performs well under 40mph. For its size it has a wonderful frequency range, punchy bass and a long lasting battery. Highly recommend if you're looking for a go-to.

Most versatile speaker ever

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Received the speaker as a promotional item. Speaker is easy to set up, light and includes a wrist band for carrying. It's listed as waterproof to a couple of meters/feet and is very easy to charge. The battery will provide up to 10 hours on a complete charge. The speaker can be synchronized with other JBL speakers to provide a surround sound like effect. My one issue with JBL is that they have not provided the necessary USB cord for charging.

JBL 3 SE Portable Speaker

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This speaker is small yet powerful! It's super easy to carry around or toss in a bag, but once you turn it on, it gets plenty loud. The volume gets much louder than you'd expect for the size, and the sound quality stays great even when you turn it up.

I've brought mine to the beach multiple times, and the durability is super convenient. I can just toss it in the beach bag and not worry about it getting sandy, thrown around, or even wet. It's one of those speakers that you can actually take with you without having to worry about being too careful with it.

The battery life has been more than adequate for me as well, and it's super easy to connect and start playing. Overall, it's a great little speaker that's easy to bring pretty much anywhere and sounds much bigger than it actually is!

Great Durable Speaker

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This speaker is the best! The battery can last for hours, charges super fast, connects instantly with other speakers, and the audio is so crisp and loud! Again, JBL nailed it! AND its the perfect traveling size.

Small, powerful and crisp! LOVE IT

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have the earlier flip series and I was especially ecstatic to receive this updated model. The size is just perfect to carry around, and the waterproof ability helps when taking it to the beach or by the pool. The sound quality is what I expect from JBL. This speaker is loud and performs nicely in a nice sized area. The speaker paired very easily with my mobile phone, and battery life is great for listening to your favorite music or podcast for hours. You can also connect a second Flip speaker to create great surround sound!

Easy Bluetooth connectivity

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a great speaker to bring to work! I work in a kitchen, and multiple coworkers have complimented the speaker's sound quality. I am also impressed!

One of the first things I noticed is how strong the bass response is in low to mid volume! I can really enjoy the music without being obnoxious to my coworkers. The sound is so clear, its like personal concert wherever I want!

I plan on taking this backpacking in the near future, and I'm sure it will perform wonderfully! The battery life is pretty nice. I can go multiple workdays without charging it.

The simplicity of the packaging and instructions is nice. It was very easy to understand.

Great sound quality for its size!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The JBL Flip Essential 3 SE may look compact; however; it is a force to be reckoned with! We connected it to a T.V. while outside and the sound was great. The clear & precise sound made for an optimal viewing experience while outdoors. It was connected via Bluetooth which was convenient. For music listening, the Flip Essential 3 SE has an exceptional sound quality and an extraordinary amount of base. No matter the genre, the sound is crisp. The speaker material construct is sturdy while it has a clean look to it. It also has a good battery life which is important while in the outdoors.

Packs a punch for a medium sized speaker

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a very versatile speaker. It's rugged enough to handle being dropped, it's waterproof, and it has a very respectable 12 hour battery life. The design is simple, straightforward, and looks fine anywhere you put it. Charges up easily with USB-C. The size of this speaker is ideal for travel and convenience- it's about the size of a soda bottle or bottle of water. It fits perfectly into the side mesh pocket of all my backpacks. The sound quality is solid but not excellent, and that's fine given the assumed lower price point. It sounds good and loud for its size. I took it disc golfing as well as on a bicycle trip, and it was perfect for those occasions.

Good, versatile compact speaker with excellent value.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] "Who is this for?"
This is for those on a budget as the tagline implies but also for those first getting into audio. This is also a great speaker for those who like to listen to music and are around a lot of water whether that be by the pool or in the shower

The main pro:
Water Resistance - JBL is well known for their water resistant speakers and this is the upgrade I've been waiting for; the USB-C port is now water resistant! That doesn't sound like a big deal but previous generations of speakers had a flap over the ports that always was a source of concern whether or not I had closed it before taking it into the shower

The main con:
Volume Distortion - As a small, budget speaker I expected no less. To be fair, this thing sounds great at volumes 50% and below but above that, you lose bass as well as audio clarity. The solution is a bigger speaker for louder volumes so at this size it's to be expected but it would feel wrong not to mention it anyways. I personally wouldn't purchase any speaker below JBL's Xtreme size unless I was specifically looking for something extremely portable

Some miscellaneous points to end on is that I like the improved design such as adding a high quality strap, the ability to triple press the play button to go back a song, and the continued improvement of the button placement. Overall I'm impressed at the quality for the price but I wouldn't buy anything that couldn't get loud and maintain the bass at that volume
