In IR (infrared) mode the DH7 is able to read surface temperatures and when in probe mode can read internal temperatures. The IR mode is great for checking the surface temperature of grill grates, pizza stones or the food you are cooking while the probe mode allows you to check the internal temperatures of the food to make sure they are at temperatures safe for consumption. The folding design of the DH7 allows the probe to fold into the main body of the thermometer, saving space and making it easier to store. This may be my new go to thermometer for cooking.

Starting with the probe, this is a standard probe thermometer. I found it to  be accurate when testing on boiling and frozen water and against another thermometer. The longer length of the probe is great when used at my grill, keeping my hands further from the food and heat. The probe automatically turns on the thermometer when turned into the open position and has almost a full 180º 

The Infrared thermometer is easy to use and I found it great for testing the searing pan. It would also be useful for monitoring food temps in a staging areas. The readings are quick, taken by pointing and holding the IR button, and lock into the display when you let go.

The display on the thermometer is large and easy to read. The overall size is also large, so it may be cumbersome for some who have limited dexterity. It uses two CR2032 batteries that were included in the package but were not installed.

Great for cooking and food safety

This is the best thermometer! It has a rapid read option with the probe and takes much less time than my old one. The option for the infrared is so great. The digital display is easy to read even when it isn’t bright out when I am grilling. I couldn’t ask for a better one!

Best thermometer ever!!!

Works amazing! Used it for the first time grilling chicken. The large display is perfect and our chicken was cooked to perfection! It didn’t take long to check the temperature and I felt confident that it was accurate.

Easy to use! Food was cooked to perfection!

This is a nice dual purpose thermometer. We can test the temperature of the different settings of our blackstone and now understand what areas of the grill are warmer than others, which is super nice! And then just flip the probe and test the temperature of whatever we are cooking. Great little device to add to our collection!

Great dual purpose thermometer

The Escali DH7 Infrared Surface and Folding Probe Thermometer is the best folding thermometer I have ever used. The display is nice and bright and has a big bold display which is easy to read. I love the fact that it automatically turns on when you unfold it and automatically turns off when you fold it. I have had other thermometers that don't do that and the battery would die so quickly. It's also great that it's both a probe and surface thermometer so I can check the surface of my meats before I serve them or cut into them.

Best Infrared Folding Thermometer!

This is a great meat thermometer! It takes two batteries which came in the box and was easy to assemble. I love that the sharp meat probe is a good length and folds after use for safety! It was able to gage the temperature of the meat quickly and accurately which is so much better than our old thermometer that took forever to get up to the actual temperature. I’m very happy with this product!

Nice Thermometer!

This is a great compact meat thermometer. I’m going to love using it. It comes with batteries and on the back of the thermometer the actual poker part spins into a little slot so it’s compact. There is also writing on the back telling you what temperatures to cook each meat to. I love that, it makes it so much easier that constantly having to try to remember or look it up every time. Definitely recommend this thermometer.

Great compact thermometer

High quality, quick, and accurate read. It doesn't display the temp long and is short for using on the grill (hand is too close to grill/flame). A bit over priced for the value so gave it 4 stars.

Quick Accuracy, But....

Love that this thermometer reads both surface and interior temperatures. Big easy to read display screen. Love that it came with the batteries separate from the unit to ensure not battery drainage. We own a small family owned bbq trailer and this would be a perfect product if it was magnetic to be able to put in our wall above our cutting station or on the fridge.

Almost perfect

Well I was excited to get this and try it out. I got it to power on one time and now I can’t get it to do anything. I’ve taken out the batteries and put back in and still no power comes on. Disappointed in this one.
